Two medals and a heavy sun burn from the elite nationals

The Baltic elite road race championships were held last Sunday in Kuldiga, Latvia. The race wasn't super long, only 164km, but the heat was brutal and it made many riders to stop or slow down as the Baltic riders aren't used to 32 degrees outside. It was easy to get in trouble if you missed a cold drink or ice to cool you down during the effort. The first half of the race was outside of the town and the big group split in two with the first part chasing a strong 4 men break, all of them in front craked due to the heat, the second half on the streets of Kuldiga was like in the sauna. Only five riders stayed in the front for the final lap with our Mikutis trying to power away, he was the man to beat, unfortunately faster finishers managed to get it to the line.

Aivaras finished 4th in the sprint. With that he was 2nd best in the Lithuanian national championships competition. Pauls Rubenis finished few minutes later and got the bronze medal in the Latvian championships classification. Alekss Krasts was the 4th man in the Latvian classification, he missed the first big group at the beginning and was chasing others together with the World Tour rider Toms Skujins (Trek-Segafredo) the whole race, it was a strong performance as well. We had also Madis Mihkels racing for the Estonian medals in that first big field, but he didn't survive the heat finishing 8th.
